Xinjiang will promote the construction of the "four million mu" seed production base. By 2025, the total area of seed production bases for wheat, corn, cotton and special crops will reach 4 million 196 thousand and 800 mu.

From the the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region agricultural and rural department, it is learned that the "four million mu" seed production base involves 1292 villages in 12 prefectures (cities) and 70 counties (cities and districts).

The "four million mu" seed production base project includes land leveling, soil improvement, farmland irrigation and drainage facilities construction, efficient water-saving facilities construction, and field road renovation, and so on. Through the establishment of a number of standardized seed fields, the construction of "five modernization" (large-scale, intensive, standardized, mechanized and informational) seed production bases has been completed. At the same time, the project will also build 60 regional breeding bases for good seed, including 17 cotton, 13 corn, 19 wheat and 11 characteristic crops.

Through innovative research on high quality varieties, the project is expected to enhance the technological innovation ability of Xinjiang seed enterprises, enhance the supply ability of wheat, corn, cotton and special crops, and ensure the safety of national seed industry and food security.

In recent years, with the growth of leading seed enterprises, Xinjiang has promoted the development and extension of the industrial chain. At present, the seed production area of Xinjiang (including Xinjiang production and Construction Corps) is about 3 million 500 thousand mu, and the annual seed production volume is about 1 million tons, of which the annual seed sales amount is about 300 thousand tons.
