The Malaysia Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) jumped from 47.2 in March to 49.4 in April, a 7 month high. Although it has not escaped its atrophy, it has shown signs of improvement.

But economists are cautious about the prospects, and Malaysia's manufacturing and exports will face more severe competition from Vietnam.

April PMI 49.4, less than 50 of the ups and downs, means that it is still shrinking, but it is close to expansion, also better than 47.2 in March.

Malaysia's manufacturing exports were supported by new export orders from Europe, the United States, Singapore and Japan, which improved the index and increased output accordingly.

The latest PMI index shows that the new export orders hit a 10 month high and the first increase in 5 months. The study predicts that industrial production and exports will be better in the next quarter.
