Retail Sales Of Textiles In Scotland Have Dropped Sharply
This year, Scotland's demand for non essentials, such as fashion clothes, carpets, shoes and furniture, has dropped sharply.
Shopkeepers are in the doldrums, which has led to the biggest decline in retail sales over the past 20 years because of the sluggish market.
Sales in June dropped by 3.9% compared with May, while the base growth in two years was less than 2.2%.
Sales of clothing, footwear and textiles related items were the most affected, with a drop of 6.9%.
According to the latest statistics released by the National Bureau of statistics of Scotland, the decline in sales in June is the largest since 1986.
Experts in the retail sector believe that the national economic slowdown has forced consumers to cut down on expensive items such as high-class clothing, furniture and other luxury products and spend on basic necessities.
